HIS EMINENCE IN PERSON

His Eminence, Oba Chukumela Nnam Obi II, was born on November 20, 1942 into the Royal family of Umueze -Ogba, Umu okoya Umuebe kindred of Ogba. His father, Obuoha Obi was a Crown prince of Ogbaland and his Grandfather reigned as Obi Chukuma . Nnam Obi's birth was heralded by the end of the great flood (miniji) and an Oracle predicted that he would one day be the Oba of Ogbaland. Despite his Royal background, Oba Chukumela's early life was one of peraeverance and triumph of vicissitude of life. He had a rather poor and humble background. Things were extremely austere and difficult for him. After his Elementary school at Methodist School, Sabongari Kano where he passed with distinction in 1959, he relied on sheer will power and self support to pay his way through Secondary Education at Santa Maria High School Omoku, where as a senior Prefect, he left in 1966 in flying colors. After a stint at an Oil Servicing Company, and the State Civil Service between1967 and early 1970, he was crowned the Oba of Ogbaland.

His Eminence, is one of the amiable, blunt and fearless traditional rulers in present day Nigeria. his leadership qualities has earned him such important positions as theChairman of Rivers State Traditional Rulers and Chiefs, 1972-1979, member, Interenational Committee on Chiftaincy and Royalty for FESTAC (Nigerian Representative) 1974-1977; First Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council, Federal University of Technology Owerri, 1980-1984; Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Akure!992-1996, Chaiman, Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, 1994-1996; National President, traditional Rulers of Oil Mineral producing Communities of Nigeria (TROMPCON), 1994 till date; Member, Vision 2010 Committee, 1996; Member, National Council on Nigerian Vision (NCNV).

Married with four wives with over thirty five children, the Oba is an Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), Knight Grand Commander of the Mystical Order of St. Peter (KTGC), Doctor of Letters (D.LITT), City University of Los Angeles, California, U.S.A.; Doctor of Technology, (D.TECH),Federal university of technology Owerri; Doctor of Science, (D.Sc.) Federal University of Technology Akure; Justice of Peace and Fellow, Federal College of Education (Technical), Omoku.
