Dr
Peter Odili is an ONELGA Son, everyone of us is proud of..I had the
good fortune of meeting this great son on more than one occassion; Once,
when l was Special Adviser on Petroleum Matters in his Local Government
under the SDP administration of Chief Ibe Eresia Eke and at another
time while serving as Acting Deputy Chaiman of ONELGA during the Iweka
Aaron administration just before the Abacha government dissolved the
State and Local government. He was and still is someone l admire.He
is true to his coviction, committment and vision.I remember a good many
of us use to go to his office while he was Deputy Governor and he will
find time to see us all and tackle the problems we came with. Even after
he left office as Deputy Governor,he still found time to see us on issues
bordering on our wellbeing, the local government and the State at large.
I had last year travelled to Washington DC, during the Rivers Foundation
Convention, to welcome this great Son of Rivers State and he did not
dissappoint the men and women of Rivers State who graced that occassion.
He gave a speech that was well deserving of a leader Nigeria needs.His
list of achievement echoed throughout Nigerian communities for a long
time. The electronic media in the U.S.A wrote about his accomplishments
as best Governor of Rivers State .There were mischief makers who wrote
off the stories of his accomplishment as a buck passing event for only
those whose palms have been greesed. Some saw nothing good about governance
in Nigeria. Some of us decided that it was best we paid a visit to Rivers
State to find out things for ourselves.What we saw was beyond our wildest
dreams but like the Chinese say, " a picture is worth more than
a thousand words" This great Son of ONELGA has kept faith even
with the daunting challenge.He has prooved the treasury looters lieing
in wait wrong.He has done more than any other Squandermania Government
since Rivers state was created. You dont have to like him, just recognise
and appreciate his efforts and Rivers state would remain the envy of
all Nigerians. The
