The Provost of the Rivers State College of Education, Prof. Addison Wokocha recieved plaudits from the Rivers State Governor, Hon. Chibuike Amaechi yesterday for his tremendous strides in academics.

Governor Amaechi, who spoke through the Rivers State Commissioner for Works, Hon. Dakuku Peterside at a book presentation, âLegal Issues in Nigerian Education, written in honour of the professor, described Wokocha as a role model for youths in the country.

The governor commended Prof. Wokocha’s strides in the academic arena, noting that they were significant considering his humble background.

As the special father of the day, the Deputy Governor, Engr. Tele Ikuru represented by Permanent Secretary, Office of the Deputy Governor, Mr. Alli Oruitemeka, called on the youths of the state to lay down their arms by engaging in meaningful activities.

The deputy governor said the professor represents excellence in his field and “to all that is good in Rivers people, and in addition, he is a role model”.

He charged the youths to emulate the life of the professor, especially now that the Federal Government was taking the challenge of developing the Niger Delta as one of the seven cardinal points of this administration.

Engr. Ikuru noted that time has come for the youths to promote development and eschew all forms of attitude that would take the state backwards.

In his review of the book, Prof. E.S. Nwauche of the University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt, said the book was a compendium of good research on legal issues regarding education in the country.

He stated that the richness of the book stems from the fact that it was compiled by experts in both the legal and academic world, and recommended it for teachers and lawyers as well.

Later on, Prof. Wokocha in his speech said he was elated over the recognition given t o him. “I feel that I have not achieved much for me to be recognised”, he added.

For him, the recognition will spur him to greater heights as he was ready to contribute more to the academia and the state.
