Oba blasts Clark
The Chairman of Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers and Oba of Ogbaland,
Sir Chukumela Nnam Obi II has advised the former federal commissioner for information,
Chief Edwin Clark against meddling in the affairs of Rivers State.
Sir Nnam Obi expressed dissatisfaction over what he described as excessive out-bursts of the Ijaw leader.
In a statement in Port Harcourt at the weekend, the traditional rulers’ council chairman said though, Clark was entitled to his opinion in matters of public interest, it was absolutely wrong for him to be painting a terrible picture of Rivers State before the Presidency and the world at large.
Wondering why Chief Clark was obsessed with issue concerning Rivers State at the expense of his native Delta State, Sir Nnam Obi noted that Rivers State was a hybrid of diverse ethnic groups that do not all belong to the Ijaw ethnic nationality as the former federal commissioner has striven to make out.
He said it was unfortunate that some eminent Rivers people, who were expected to advise Clark to steer clear of affairs of Rivers State, have joined him to make unfounded allegations and inflammatory remarks capable of undermining the safety, security and progress of Rivers State.
Oba Nnam Obi remarked that the issues of cultism which formed the plank of Clark’s 200-page document to the Presidency were an ill-wind that has been blowing across the entire Niger Delta, and not just Rivers State, to warrant his request for a presidential judicial commission of enquire into it in the state.
The monarch pointed out that it was all too well known that Rivers State Governor, Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has been working assiduously more than his counterparts in the Niger Delta to nip cultism and militancy in the bud.
Notwithstanding Clark’s absolution of Governor Amaechi from involvement in cultism, the Oba noted that he (Clark) and indeed other self-acclaimed Ijaw leaders should exercise restraint in making wild, frivolous and unsubstantiated statements aimed at dragging the image of the government and people of Rivers State in the mud.
Sir Nnam Obi urged Nigerians to discountenance Clark’s present posture
as Rivers State, the engine of growth for the Nigerian nation, still remains
safe haven for investors, residents and visitors anytime, any day
