The alleged meddlesomeness in the affairs of Rivers State of former federal commissioner for information and Ijaw leader, elder statesman E.K.Clark has drawn flak from the Chairman of the Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council and Oba (eze Ogba) of Ogbaland Chukumela Nnam Obi 11, who said the state is not an all-Ijaw grouping.
Chief Press Secretary to the council Victor Tew said “though Clark is entitled to his opinion in matters of public interest, it is absolutely wrong for him to be painting a terrible picture of Rivers State before the presidency and the world at large.

We wonder why Chief Clark is obsessed with issues concerning Rivers State; he should be informed that the state is a hybrid of diverse ethnic groups that do not belong to the Ijaw ethnic nationality as Clark has striven to make out.

It is unfortunate that some eminent Rivers people who are expected to advise Clark to steer clear of affairs of the state have joined him to make unfounded allegations and inflammatory remarks capable of undermining the safety, security and progress of Rivers State.

The issues of cultism which formed the plank of Clark ’s 200-page document to the presidency is an ill-wind that has been blowing across the entire Niger Delta and not just Rivers State to warrant his request for a presidential judicial commission of enquiry”

Oba Obi said “it is all too well known that Governor Rotimi Amaechi has been working assiduously more than his counterparts in the Niger Delta to nip cultism and militancy in the bud.

Notwithstanding Clark ’s absolution of Amaechi from involvement in cultism, he and indeed other self-acclaimed Ijaw leaders should exercise restraint in making wild, frivolous and unsubstantiated statements aimed at dragging the image of the government and people of the state in the mud”.
