Sowing the Seeds of discord at UmuOgba U.S.A

The last Umu-Ogba U.S.A 2nd annual Convention has come and gone and it is significant to note, the failures of UmuOgba's leadership to recognise, that what keeps an organization together, is not an attempt to suppress the opinion, of those who do not agree with the way things have been done but the ability to recognise that everone has an equal opportunity to express themselves. In every organization, those who disagree are the alternative voices who act as catalyst for change. leadership is not about egos being bruised but the ability to to mend fences and build bridges of understanding and goodwill. Our purpose of coming together is not to be told, how stupid we have become. A good many of us heeded the call to come together because we recognized that we we could do something meaningful for our communities. Those who have been entrusted to lead should recognise that without the membership, there will be no leadership.

Our brothers in Michigan were neglected in the recognition process. The president in playing those premature politics forget that they spent their hard earned money and time trying to bring the Ogba people together. Was the President suffering from amenisia to recognise the efforts, of those who went the extra mile in the early days, when calls went out for us to come together as a people? The way forward is not to sow the seeds of discord.Merit demands fairness and should not be based on friendship. The organization should not be grounded on visionless iniatives but should be about doing things, no matter how small, they may seem. A one thousand dollar scholarship award based on merit and not friendship for five ogba sons and daughters will show how seriously committed we are. From hence forth, there will be no sacred cows.
